Late Brij Lal Varma

(Nov 14, 1926 - July 31, 2009)

Late Brij Lal Varma originally belonged to Khutar (Tauns), a village situated at about 4 Kms. from Fufuwar (Railway Station Sarsaul), Kanpur Nagar where he came and settled in 1960. He was a man of a little Hindi and workaday arithmetic. But he was a man of mission who believed in accepting challenges successfully and cared not a straw for hurdles.

His life as an educationist began in 1968 with the establishment of Shankaranand Primary School at Fufuwar. It was recognized the same year by the government. Local citizens supported it enthusiastically by getting their wards admitted in a large number. He succeeded in raising the School to Junior High School level the following year. The School was granted temporary recognition for running Junior High School Classes. It was in the year 1973 that it was recognized, permanently. It became an added institution in 1980.

But the man behind the plan expended it further by setting up a recognized High School in 1986 and succeeded in getting recognition for running Intermediate Classes in 1995 (in Arts) and in 1997 (in Science). Shankaranand Intermediate College enjoys good reputation in the area.

Encouraged by the overwhelming support from the guardians and their repeated demand for a Degree College, the Shankaranand Vidyalaya Committee managed by Late Brij Lal Varma decided to cater to the need of the boys and girls of Fufuwar and adjoining villages and established Shankaranand Mahavidyalaya (duly affiliated by Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur) in 2006. The justification of the move came when scholars (and especially girls who could not go to Colleges in the city) joined the College from the day one. This man of vision of Fufuwar  breathed  his last peacefully on July 31,2009, leaving us to keep the torch of knowledge lighted.
